Lost In The Shuffle

Among the hussle and bussle of the end of a semester, the holidays approaching, the regular stress of a work day and the pulling and snagging of responsibilities, the reason for doing it all can become lost.  At the same time, God  can be tweaking your heart and  getting ready to lead you somewhere that is (to you) considered uncharted territory. Lately, I have felt this battle in my head going back and forth between decisions and then not making decisions for both selfish and unselfish reasons. For the past few months I have battled hearing God’s voice telling me to make a bold step (bold in terms of my life and passions). I have heard it, sometimes muffled, sometime loud and clear, but I end up somehow justifying that I am wrong, that there is ‘no way God would want me to do that!’. This decision is one that would remove me from something I love doing more than anything else in life. After months of contemplation, while listening to a sermon on a Sunday morning, I heard his voice loud and clear… again. This time I decided to finally take action and be obedient in his words.

Scripture says, “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.” – Luke 16:10

Scripture also says, “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” – Matthew 25:21

For me, when the Lord speaks to me and puts something on my heart, it’s a feeling of ‘I just know…’ I think about it all the time, subconsciously I know I have to do it even though I try to ignore it. God can speak differently to his sheep in different ways whether through scripture, other people, books, prayer, etc. The key to it, is you have to be listening and willing to be obedient.

God’s word states, “It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul,14that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil. 15He will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.” – Deuteronomy 11:13-15

We must be slaves to our Master, who is the one and only Jesus Christ. Our faith must prevail to Him every time. Our obedience must be focused on His words every time. We can’t justify not doing something because are scared or worried of what might come after that step and we can’t justify not doing something because of leaving a comfort zone. We must trust in the Lord that He knows what is best for us at all times. He has our best interest at heart.

“Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the Lord.” – Psalm 4:5

“And those who know your name will put their trust in you, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.” – Psalm 9:10

  1. Leaving your comfort zone is probably the hardest thing to do. Not only does it make you out of control but once you step out it seems that you always feel alone. To lean on God when your scared and not knowing what is coming up next is a huge step of faith. We as humans think that we know it all that we have it all figured out, but the truth is that we know nothing. God is in control of our lives and I promise if you think your going to try to out smart God he will always surprise you. It is never going to turn out the way you think it is going to. We need to stop being holy ghost jr. Let God be in control be still and know who God is. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He always has the best intentions for you. He sees the whole picture when we don’t. So don’t be scared and step out boldly. Try not to get wrapped up in what your desires are or what you want because sometimes the lord just wants you to keep your eyes on him and after you take care of his business later he will give you your desires. I honestly think god is sitting up there in heaven saying just be obedient and FEED MY SHEEP!
